Mac The Sheltie Reunited With Family After Week Away In The Cold

A missing sheltie has been found near the race track after escaping during a trip to the groomers. He spent 6 days in the cold, but is fine.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Mac the Sheltie is home six days after slipping away from his owners during the brutal cold. He was found Tuesday near Arlington Race Track, where police believe he may have hunkered down in a barn.

He slipped out of his collar Jan. 23 while he owners were dropping him off at a groomers near Windsor and Palatine roads in Arlington Heights, police said. He ran west and had been spotted near Palatine Road and Route 53.

Someone reported seeing the dog near the race track Tuesday, and police were able to capture the shivering pup. He appeared to have an injured paw, The Arlington Cardinal reported.

Mac is otherwise fine and has been reunited with his family.
