TINLEY PARK, IL — The April 2021 Consolidated Elections are just months away. Candidates for various positions around Tinley Park are officially in the running for mayor, trustee, library board and more.

Tinley Park's Mayor Jacob Vandenberg announced he will not seek re-election, leaving the village president slot open this April. Vandenberg said his primary responsibility in life is to dedicate his time, energy, focus and love on being a husband, father and small business owner.

In his statement, Vandenberg said Tinley Park is worth fighting for and that the village is "worthy of nothing but the absolute best from its leaders."

"I feel I provided that during my administration. I fought for the future of Tinley Park and will continue to do so as a citizen," Vandenberg said. " After all, that is our responsibility as citizens of this great country. Thank you for placing your trust in me to lead our village. I will be forever grateful."

Filing for municipal elections ended in December, with many old and new faces entering the race. The following candidates are expected to appear on the ballot this April:

  • Kevin L. Suggs — Running for mayor, Suggs filed to enter the race on Dec. 21. Suggs was the first Black board member in Tinley Park, filling a vacancy in 2016. He lost the election in 2017, which would have made him a full-term trustee. See his Facebook page for further information.
  • Kristin Ann Thirion — Seeking re-election for Village Clerk, Thirion is part of the Our Tinley Party slate. Thirion is running uncontested.
  • William P. Brady — Seeking re-election, Brady is a member of the Our Tinley Party slate. He was elected in 2017 and is Chairperson of the Administration and Legal Committee.
  • Colleen Sullivan — Running for village trustee, Sullivan was formally welcomed to the One Tinley Party slate in October.
  • Dennis P. Mahoney — Running for village trustee, Mahoney was also formally welcomed as a newcomer to the slate in October.

"It is very exciting to see so many people actively participating in the democratic process in their local communities," Cook County Clerk Karen A. Yarbrough said in a news release. "These elections are often overlooked although they have the most impact on our day-to-day lives."

The Consolidated Election will take place on April 6. Consolidated primaries are scheduled for Feb. 23. For more information regarding the upcoming election, click here.
