Teens Caught On Security Camera Trying To Steal Car: Tinley PD
The homeowner was at work early Wednesday when he witnessed the boys, 14 and 15, smash his car window via security camera.
TINLEY PARK, IL — Two teen boys face charges Wednesday after police said they tried to steal a 2022 Hyundai Tuscon from in front of a Tinley Park Home.
Tinley Park police charged the boys, 14 and 15 years old, with burglary and resisting/obstructing a peace officer after they attempted the theft in the 16500 block of Crescent Avenue.
Police arrived at the home just before 4 a.m. after the homeowner, who was at work and remotely watching a surveillance camera feed outside his home, called saying he just saw two people exit a Kia, walk up his driveway and then shatter his vehicle’s window before climbing inside, police said.

Police arrived just as the 2021 Kia that had dropped off the offenders sped away, nearly striking one of the responding officers in the process. Officers found the Kia and pursued it southbound on Harlem Avenue, but were forced to terminate the chase for safety reasons as the Kia sped away at more than 100 miles per hour, police said.
The two boys who had broken into the homeowner’s vehicle fled the scene on foot in different directions, and were eventually found in the 7900 block of 164th Court and the 16600 block of Crescent Avenue. Both boys were transported to the Tinley Park Police Department. Neither qualified for a secure custody and were processed. Both will be petitioned into juvenile court.

That same day, police responded to eight additional burglary to motor vehicle incidents at the Town and Country Apartments behind Jewel-Osco, police said. Police are still investigating if those burglaries have any connection to the attempted burglary on Crescent Avenue.
"The Tinley Park Police Department would like to remind residents to lock their doors, roll up their windows, avoid leaving valuable items inside their cars, and park in well-lit areas if possible," police said.
