TINLEY PARK, IL — Now that the holidays are done and the New Year has started, Tinley Park residents who are beginning to take down their decorations at their homes may be looking to safely dispose of their Christmas trees.

Village officials announced that Christmas tree collection will take place the first two weeks after Christmas on residents’ regular trash pick-up day. The collection of trees began last week, which makes this week the final week in which trees will be collected by Homewood Disposal Services, which has handled Tinley Park’s trash and recycling services since 2019.

To be collected by Homewood Disposal, trees must have all of their lights, ornaments, and tinsel removed and may not be set out in a plastic bag, the village said. Flocked trees will be collected as trash, the village said.
