Tinley Park Receives Over $720K In CARES Act Funding

The village announced it received a portion of the $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill passed by Congress in March 2020.

TINLEY PARK, IL — The Village of Tinley Park announced it has received funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act is a $2.2 trillion economic stimulus bill that was passed by Congress in March 2020, to assist in the economic decline of all during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The village said after combining the amount that both Will County and Cook County received, it was granted a grand total of $720,994. According to the village, the Will County portion was given a total of $325,718, and the Cook County portion received $383,275. The Cook County portion has been approved for an additional $12,000 that has yet to arrive, for a total of $395,275, the village said.

"The CARES act helps offset the Village’s revenues lost and expenses incurred due to COVID-19 pandemic," the village said.

According to the village, CARES provides widespread assistance to individuals, corporations and state and local governments. The CARES Act puts limitations on what governments can spend the funds on. Governments have to meet all the following requirements to receive funding, according to a memo the village shared:

  • Necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the coronavirus.
  • Funds that were not accounted for in the most recent budget.
  • Incurred between Mar. 1, 2020 and Dec. 30, 2020.

Illinois received a total of $4,913,928,948 in CARES funding from the federal government. Cook County received $898,729,990 and Will County got $120,536,576, according to Tax Foundation.
