Broken Water Main Causing Brown (But 'Safe') Water

A major water main break was discovered over the night between Monday and Tuesday at the corner of Hillgrove Avenue and Linden Avenue, and is causing much of Western Springs to recieve discolored water, the Village has announced.

The Public Works Department is working on fixing the break, and has declared that the water "is safe to drink." The discoloration is due to rust and calcium carbonate that has been stirred up by directional flow changes in the pipes necessary to retain water service while the main is repaired.

The line that broke is one that leads from the Village Water Plant to the Spring Rock Park water tower, and thus is causing major disruption in service to much of the town. 

Water main breaks, especially in Old Town North, have been frequent this spring, at a rate of about two each month.
