E-Bike Riders Cited In Western Springs: Cops

In another case, a resident was scammed out of $30,000, local police said.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Western Springs police released their latest blotter Monday. Here is information from the reports:

Reckless conduct

  • Police cited youths about 5 p.m. Wednesday with reckless conduct under a village ordinance for the way they were riding their electric bikes at Spring Rock Park. Another juvenile was cited for the same charge about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Garden Market in the 4700 block of Willow Springs Road. Concerns over e-bikes have been expressed during public meetings in the western suburbs. Some have passed restrictions.

Scam

  • A resident in the 1300 block of Walnut Avenue was scammed out of $30,000 in a May 22 phone call. The fraud was reported a week later. Patch has filed a public records request for the police report.

Theft

  • An unlocked bicycle was stolen between May 23 and May 27 from the bike rack at McClure Junior High. It was valued at $500.
