"The combination of bitterly cold temperatures, no assurances that buses will function properly and in an effort to keep students and staff safe, all after school activities are also cancelled and will be re-scheduled; this includes all athletic practices and club meetings," Kilrea's statement reads. "According to Illinois school code, LT is required to make up this missed day, which will require the use of emergency days already on the adopted LT school calendar. We will communicate the plan for making up this day in the coming weeks."

District 101 schools will be open Tuesday, according to the district's website,Β but there will be a late start. Class will beginΒ at 10 a.m.
