New Softball Field Planned for Lyons Township High

A late student's charity is making the project possible. She was a standout player.

WESTERN SPRINGS, IL – Lyons Township High School plans to build a new softball field nearer the South Campus building, just south of the tennis courts.

The current field, which is away from the building and next to houses, will be converted into an open grass field for physical education classes and other activities, officials said.

Last year, Lyons Township High School accepted a $2 million donation from a late student's charity. The money from the Stacy Ann Baker Charitable Fund is earmarked to pay for the modernization of the softball field. It will be named "Baker Field" in honor of the standout player who graduated in 1985.

The new field will include bleachers with 206 seats and five wheelchair spots, masonry dugouts, a press box and a video scoreboard, according to the school.

At Monday's Western Springs Village Board meeting, John Grundke, the school's athletic director, said officials hope to start the project this summer.
