Vehicle Burglary Alert for Western Springs

After two cars suffered identical break-ins in the same location at the same time (with the same item stolen,) the WSPD has issued a warning to residents.

The has issued a community alert after Friday morning saw two cars in the western part of the Recreation Center parking lot have their driver’s-side window smashed and designer diaper bags stolen.

The burglaries occurred at approximately 9:10 a.m. on Apr. 20.

Both stolen backs contained various credit and ID cards. One had an iPhone and $80 in cash, a total theft valued at $300; the other had a cell phone and $20 in cash, a total theft valued at $50.

“The Police Department would like to remind residents to be extra vigilant,” the alert read, as have past alerts. “Please do not leave any visible items such as purses, cell phones, laptop computers, MP3 players, portable GPS units or backpacks in the interior of a parked and unattended vehicle.

“Completely secure your vehicle, even if you step away for only a few minutes.”

Vehicle burglaries and damages in the Recreation Center lot are not uncommon. A purse was in November 2011, and a wallet was in August. In June, a woman $2000 in damage done to the roof of her car.
