Western Springs Carjacking Might Be Linked to Similar Naperville Incident: Police

Police said it would make sense the two are connected because of three not-so-coincidental coincidences.

The carjacking of a 17-year-old Western Springs girl’s Jeep is likely linked to a similar incident in Naperville, police told the Naperville Sun.

Western Springs police released a statement Feb. 10 describing their crime, in which a teenager, parked in her blue 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the 4800 block of Fair Elms Avenue, was approached by two men who got out of a white sedan and threatened her with guns.

The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. Feb. 9, according to police. One man reportedly blocked the driver’s side door, pointed a gun at the girl and told her to get out of the Jeep before physically pulling her out by her arm. The other man was allegedly blocking the passenger’s side of the door.

The teenager got out of the car and ran to find help immediately, she told police, while the two suspects drove away with her car.

The Naperville carjacking was reported Monday evening, according to the Naperville Sun, and included a 61-year-old employee of the Ann Reid Early Childhood Center on South Naper Boulevard being approached by a man who had also gotten out of a white sedan.

The suspect allegedly went up to the woman and showed her his handgun before stealing her purse and her gray 2011 BMW X5, the Sun reported.

In the Western Springs case, suspects were described as a white man standing around 9-foot-5 and wearing a ski mask and black sweatshirt and a black man around the same height wearing a gray sweatshirt.

The Sun reported that the suspect in the Naperville case was a clean-shaven teenager between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-7, with a medium complexion. He was described as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and weighing around 160 pounds.

Western Springs Sgt. Investigator Dan Albrecht told the Sun the two incidents seem to be linked together, since they both occurred around the same time of night and involved a white sedan and female victims.
