WHEATON, IL — Three DuPage County Sheriff's deputies were hospitalized and multiple others were hurt after a man attacked them Friday afternoon when he tried to leave the courthouse, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities said the deputies attempted to stop the man, who had been ordered by a judge to get an evaluation, while he was on the landing of an escalator. The man "resisted" one deputy and then hit the deputy, which caused them both to fall down the escalator, a news release said.

A struggle ensued, with more deputies getting hurt, according to the sheriff's office. The man was arrested shortly after and charges are pending.
