Coroner Identifies Remains Of Person Found On Great Western Trail

The human remains were found November 12 on The Great Western Trail near Carol Stream.

CAROL STREAM, IL — The DuPage County Coroner has identified human remains that were found on the Great Western Trail near Carol Stream in November 2024.

The remains were identified as that of a 59-year-old man from Carol Stream, according to Coroner Judith Lukas. Lukas wrote that the decedent's family asked that his identity remain private.

In December, Lukas facilitated DNA testing to identify the remains.

Lukas shared the following statement Friday, "It is important for the families to have answers and know that their loved one has been treated with dignity and care. Our deepest condolences go out to this gentleman’s family and friends. The DuPage County Coroner’s Office remains committed to supporting the living and honoring those who have passed."

The man's cause of death is still undetermined.
