County Urges Flu Shots During National Influenza Vaccination Week

DuPage County Health Department is encouraging residents to get their vaccines as flu season continues.

DUPAGE COUNTY — The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) is urging residents to get their flu shots during National Influenza Vaccination Week, which runs through Dec. 6.

DCHD recommends flu shots for residents who are six months old or older. They stress that flu vaccines are important for more vulnerable members of the population, including:

  • Kids under five years old
  • Adults 65 and older
  • Pregnant people
  • People with chronic illnesses

“During this holiday season, getting the flu vaccine is an important step to protect yourself and your loved ones. Let’s stay healthy and enjoy a safe holiday season together,” DCHD Executive Director Adam Forker said in a statement.

As flu season surges, DCHD also encourages residents to take the following steps to prevent the spread of illness:

  • Stay up to date with vaccinations
  • Wash hands with antibacterial soap and water
  • Use hand sanitizer with 60 percent alcohol or higher
  • Avoid being close in contact with people who may be sick
  • Cover sneezes and coughs
  • Use face masks
