Energy Assistance Applications To Open In DuPage County In October

Eligible residents can get assistance with paying for gas, electric and propane services as winter approaches.

WHEATON, IL — Starting Oct. 1, eligible DuPage County residents can apply for financial assistance with their gas, electric and propane services as the colder months approach. The assistance is part of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

The program gives one-time assistance to low-income customers. DuPage County residents who use propane are encouraged to apply early to get ahead of winter's rising propane prices.

Here's what residents need to provide when they apply.

  1. All household members' gross income proof for the 30 days prior to the application date
  2. Social Security and Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers for all members of a household
  3. Copies of electric and heating bills from the past 30 days
  4. Rental agreement copy reflecting included utilities, contact information for their landlord

As of Oct. 1, the following individuals may apply for LIHEAP.

  • Residents ages 60 and over
  • Residents with disabilities
  • Residents in homes with disconnected utilities or who have gotten a notice of disconnection
  • Residents who have 25 percent or less remaining in their propane tanks
  • Residents with children who are five years old or younger

The program will begin accepting applications from other DuPage County residents on Nov. 1.

As of Sept. 17, residents can click the link to schedule an application appointment. Applications will close Aug. 15, 2026.
