Francophiles Swarm Cantigny for ‘French Connection Day’

From crepes and baguettes to a 23-foot model of the Eiffel Tower, Cantigny became a little more like its namesake—a small town in France—on Sunday.

Wheaton’s Cantigny Park, a place named after a town in France where park founder Col. Robert R. McCormick  fought in World War I, came to resemble its namesake at least in spirit at the park’s “French Connection Day,” on Sunday, the Daily Herald reports.

According to the paper, highlights included a 23-foot-tall Eiffel Tower, French food such as crepes, the sport of pétanque, an outdoor French-style market an a storytime session for kids featuring famous French kids-lit character Madeline.

"My daughter loved it, which is no surprise. We've read those books together a million times," Bodell told the paper.. "And because it's such a beautiful morning, now I think we'll stick around for awhile."
