Fraud Attempts Targeted Residents In Wheaton

Four residents were targeted in scams, according to the most recent Wheaton crime blotter.

WHEATON, IL — Four residents were the targets of identity theft or fraud scams in Wheaton, according to the city's most recent crime blotter. The reported incidents took place in early September.

On Sept. 2, a resident in the 1900 block of Evergreen Street reported that they had responded to a rental advertisement online that they later discovered was fraudulent.

A resident in the 100 block of Erie Street told police they got a call on Sept. 2 from someone who said they were with PNC Bank. The scammer convinced the resident to transfer funds into an account that was determined to be fraudulent.

Another bank fraud incident was reported on Sept. 3. A resident in the 1500 block of Ashford Court said they received a text from a scammer purporting to be with Chase Bank. The resident said they transferred money into an account that turned out to be fraudulent.

On Sept. 5, a resident in the 600 block of Harrison bought concert tickets online. They told police they never received the tickets.
