Free Kids' Fishing Derby To Be Held At Blackwell Forest Preserve
Children 15 and younger can compete in the free derby, which is slated for June 8.
WARRENVILLE, IL — Aspiring young anglers can compete for prizes during a free fishing derby set for June 8 at Blackwell Forest Preserve's Silver Lake.
Children ages 15 and younger can enter the Just for Kids Fishing Derby, which features four different age groups. During the competition, participants can get guidance and learn information from Forest Preserve District staff as they aim to catch the largest fish.
"This event is more than just a fun day of angling for young ones," ranger operations manager Marty Jandura said in a statement. “It empowers kids to appreciate nature and instills patience, perseverance, and, if we’re lucky, lifelong environmental stewardship."
