Hyde's Name To Be Removed; DuPage Courthouse Building To Get New Name
The decision to remove Rep. Henry Hyde's name from the courthouse was approved by a 10 to 5 vote by County Board members.
WHEATON, IL — The DuPage County Courthouse will soon be renamed after the board voted 10 to 5 to remove the name of late Rep. Henry J. Hyde from the building. The decision to remove Hyde's name was prompted by the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits federal funds from being used to pay for abortion services.
“The name Henry Hyde is synonymous with The Hyde Amendment, which restricts access to abortion care, especially for the most vulnerable women," DuPage County Democratic Party Chair Reid McCollum said in a statement.
McCollum added, "Removing his name from a courthouse will not restore the rights or assuage the fear of millions of women, but it's the right thing to do.”
