Obituary: Robert D. Flynn

Bob served his Country proudly aboard the SS New Jersey during the Korean War as a member of the US Navy.

Robert D. Flynn

Age 94, of Morris and formerly Glen Ellyn, Illinois passed away Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2025 at home.

He was born October 28, 1930 to the late Loretta (Spurr) and James A. Flynn in Chicago and was raised and educated in Elmhurst, Illinois. Bob served his Country proudly aboard the SS New Jersey during the Korean War as a member of the US Navy.

He is the loving father of three daughters, Kathy (Terry) Meyer, Christine (Jim) Schumacher, and Mary Beth Flynn; three sons, Patrick (Janet) Flynn, Timothy (the late Wendy) Flynn, and Thomas (Wilma) Flynn; devoted grandfather of 14 and proud great-grandfather of 8. Also surviving are his brother, Michael (Susan) Flynn as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Mary (Schramer) Flynn; his parents and siblings.

Mr. Flynn, a former International Representative for Local #265, retired from the Sheetmetal Workers Association after many years of dedicated service.

Bob had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since he and his wife moved to Morris in 1997. He enjoyed his time as a volunteer driver for the Morris Hospital during retirement. He was a former parishioner of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Glendale Heights and a life member of VFW Post 2164 in Wheaton as well as a member of the Yorkville American Legion Post 0486.

Visitation for Bob will be Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Drive) Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 Noon at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson Street in Morris.

As it was Bob's request, cremation rites will be accorded following Mass and his final earthly remains will be interred with those of his beloved Mary at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to St. Bede Academy, 24 W US Hwy 6, Peru, IL 61354.
