Residents Urged To Drive Sober As Halloween Approaches: DuPage County Sheriff's Office

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office will increase patrols to help keep roads safe for Halloween.

DUPAGE COUNTY — The DuPage County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) will increase patrols for Halloween weekend and in the days leading up to the holiday. This will include patrolling for drunk and impaired drivers and citing drivers for seat belt violations.

“Alcohol and cannabis impair your ability to drive safely,” Sheriff James Mendrick said in a statement.

He continued, “That’s why it’s crucial to plan how you’ll get home before you head out-, whether you’ve been drinking or using any substance. And don’t forget to wear your seat belt every trip, every time. Planning ahead, driving sober, and buckling up will help keep you and others safe.”

  • Take public transit
  • Call a cab or use a rideshare service
  • Wear your seatbelt
  • Don't let friends drive impaired
  • Call police if you see an impaired driver on the road
  • If you're walking, make sure you're joined by a sober friend

The DCSO crackdown is part of a statewide safety initiative supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
