Scholarships Awarded To 8 DuPage County Residents

DUPAGE COUNTY — Eight DuPage County residents were recently awarded Community Services Block Grant Scholarships that totaled $25,000.

The Community Block Grant Scholarships of up to $7,000 each were prioritized for "low-income individuals with high academic potential," a news release said. The scholarship winners can use the funds to buy books, pay tuition and handle other costs for their schooling.

Below is a list of the scholarship recipients:

• Bianca, of Addison
• Ali, of Glen Ellyn
• De'Lisa, of Aurora
• Sonya, of Wheaton
• Nania, of Carol Stream
• Kary, of West Chicago
• Cynthia, of Lombard
• Malika, of Naperville

"With the help of DuPage County and the Community Services Block Grant Scholarship, I will be granted the opportunity to achieve my goals, hopes, and dreams of becoming a social worker," Kary Hernandez, of West Chicago, said in a statement.

"The scholarship has bolstered my confidence and motivation, affirming that hard work and dedication are recognized and valued," Cynthia Figueroa, of Lombard, said in a statement. "I envision myself not only obtaining my degree, but also leveraging my education to uplift my community and create positive change."
