Wheaton Council Gets Look at $40 Million Sewer Plan

The proposed overhaul of five miles of sewer line wouldn't start until 2015 and would take another five to seven years.

The Wheaton Sanitary District on Monday presented their most recent plans for a massive seven-year, $40 million overhaul of over five miles of pipeline to the Wheaton City Council, the Suburban Life reports

"We have an old sanitary sewer that's reached the end of its design life and we are in the process of making plans to make replacements that extend from the wastewater plant near Shaffner and Mack roads northeasterly into Carol Stream," the paper quoted Steve Maney, the executive director of the Sanitary District, telling the Board.

According to the paper, the project likely wouldn’t start for another two years, and then would take another five to seven to complete; the Sanitary District is still looking into funding options, which may include bonds, sharing costs with other agencies, applying for government grants and perhaps some tax-rate increases.

"We've got maybe up to 10 years to walk around and see who might be willing to give us some money and we're definitely going to keep our eyes open for that,” the paper quoted Maney saying.
