WHEATON, IL — Wheaton residents looking for a way to properly dispose of some of their seasonal decorations can do so this weekend when the city will allow locals to smash some pumpkins.

The City of Wheaton’s Environmental Improvement Commission in partnership with SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) will host a “Pumpkin Smash” drop-off for pumpkins right after Halloween.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday in the city’s commuter parking lot, which is located at the intersection of Liberty and Carlton.

This collection allows residents to drop off pumpkins to be composted, rather than going to the landfill. Residents are asked to remove all decorations from the pumpkins before bringing them to be composted.
