Winners Announced For SCARCE Sustainable Design Challenge
Fifteen DuPage County students were recently recognized for their submissions to the 2024 SCARCE Sustainable Design Challenge.
WHEATON, IL — Fifteen students were recently recognized for their submissions to the 2024 SCARCE Sustainable Design Challenge.
During the April 16 competition, students shared models they built for building, community and landscape designs that centered on sustainable practices. The models included eco-conscious elements such as solar panels, rain barrels and wind turbines.
"It's an honor for myself, along with other DuPage County Board members, to recognize all of the hard work the students and teachers put into these designs," DuPage County Stormwater Management Committee Chair Jim Zay said in a news release.

Zay added, "I was thoroughly impressed by all of the projects this year, and especially by those awarded today."
The following students earned awards in the Sustainable Design Challenge:

- Best Overall Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED Design: Lake Park High School students Faith Collins, Margaret Evers, Victoria Pikulinski, Maya Seger, Aiza Sultanali
- Best Stormwater Design: York Community High School students: Luke Boskovic, Nora Conroy, Alison Goble, Grace Hudson
- Best Energy Design: Lake Park High School students Kasandra Baylosis, Olivia Kalicki, Kylie Pytlak
- Stormwater Design Runnerup: Glenbard East High School students Kaitlyn Kelly, Senka Lemez, Caitlin Rossi, Brooke Tenerelli
