Hope Walk for Homelessness 5K Returns to Wilmette—with Dogs in Tow

Sponsored by local Rotary Clubs this community event brings people (and pups) together to support vital homelessness relief services.

Wilmette, IL – Lace up your sneakers, leash up your pup, and join your neighbors for a feel-good morning in the park! The Fourth Annual Hope Walk for Homelessness 5K is happening on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Gillson Park in Wilmette, and this year’s event promises to be more heartwarming than ever—with dogs once again invited to walk alongside their humans for a meaningful cause.
Hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Wilmette, Winnetka-Northfield, Evanston Lighthouse, and Skokie Valley, the Hope Walk has become a cherished tradition that blends community spirit with compassionate action. Funds raised from the event support local nonprofits that provide shelter, food, clothing, and critical support services to individuals and families facing homelessness in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
The scenic 5K route starts at the Wallace Bowl and winds through the beautiful lakefront park. After the walk, participants and their furry companions will gather back at the Bowl for refreshments, announcements, and a celebration of the incredible impact this community continues to make.
“We are so excited to celebrate the third year of including dogs in the Hope Walk for Homelessness 5K,” said Brian Bradley, Community Service Chair for the Wilmette Rotary Club. “Having dogs participate brings even more joy and connection to the event, and helps raise awareness for an important cause. It’s a fun way for families, friends, and pets to come together to support those who are struggling with homelessness in our community.”
Proceeds from the event benefit trusted local organizations including Connections for the Homeless, La Casa Norte, Fraternite Notre Dame, and Interfaith Action of Evanston—all working tirelessly to provide life-saving services and long-term support to those in need.
This year’s event is generously sponsored by Canning & Canning, LLC, North Shore Community Bank, Glasgow Group whose support helps make the Hope Walk possible and expands its impact across the region.
Whether you’re walking solo, with your family, or alongside your four-legged best friend, the Hope Walk is a great way to connect with your community while contributing to a brighter future for our neighbors experiencing homelessness.
