Slight Drop For Gas Prices Around Wilmette

WILMETTE, IL — The more time passes, the more painful it gets for some Wilmette area residents to see the price of a tank of gas. But after a period of sharp increase, prices are decreasing slightly.

Prices in Illinois remain high, with the average price for regular gasoline sitting at $5.406 per gallon as of Wednesday, according to AAA. While that is about 9 cents cheaper than a week ago, it is still more than 42 cents more than gasoline cost at the end of May.

In Cook County, the average price is $5.849 per gallon, well over the state average. According to AAA, the national average price per gas was just below $4.87 per gallon Wednesday.

With prices as high as they are, you can still save a little bit if you know where to look around the Wilmette area.

Some of the cheapest gas in the north suburbs available without a membership card Wednesday was for sale at $4.89 per gallon at Woodman's, 1550 Deerfield Parkway, in Buffalo Grove, according to GasBuddy.

Closer to home, Sam's Club at 2450 Main St. in Evanston and the Costco at 7220 N. Melvina Ave. in Niles offered gasoline $5.39 with a membership card. Gas was $5.55 per gallon at the Costco at 2900 Patriot Blvd. in Glenview.
