Graeter's Has Best Ice Cream In Winnetka Area, Readers Say

WINNETKA, IL — The results are in from last week's poll of Winnetka-Glencoe Patch readers.

Ahead of National Ice Cream Day, readers were asked to recommend the best ice cream shop in the area, and one local creamery came out on top as the undisputed favorite.

Graeter's, which four years ago opened a Hubbard Woods location at 940 Green Bay Road, was recommended by more than half of the the dozens of respondents to the unscientific poll.

Founded in Cincinnati in 1870 and now in its fourth generation of family ownership, Graeter's' first and only other Illinois location is in Northbrook on Shermer Road.

Outside of Ohio, Graeter's also operates shops in Kentucky, Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Company representatives assert that it the last ice cream still crafted using the French Pot process in 2.5-gallon batches.

What makes it the best?

"The ice cream is delicious and the shop is terrific," one reader said.

"Super creamy and of course the large chocolate chunks," said another.

Favorite flavors among respondents, included peach, black cherry, salted caramel and mocha chocolate chips. Readers raved about the who praised the variety and quality of available options at Graeter's.

Homer's, on Green Bay Road in Wilmette, was the runner-up among Winnetka-Glencoe Patch readers.
