Winnetka Passes Assault Weapons Regulations

The Village Board of Trustees approved regulations concerning assault weapons on Friday.

Winnetka has joined the growing list of North Shore communities passing regulations on assault weapons.

The Village Board of Trustees approved regulations on Friday morning concerning the transportation and storage of assault weapons, according to an article by the Chicago Tribune. While the ordinance doesn't outright ban assault weapons, it does require that all assault weapons be disassembled while being transported. A person found in violation of the new regulations will be fined no less than $500 and no higher than $1000.

The regulations were passed five-to-one, with Trustee Jack Buck voting against the measures, citing that the Village shouldn't be rush to pass anything, the Tribune article states. The home-rule authority in the recently passed Illinois Concealed Carry — in which towns are allowed to pass their own regulations on the law — ended on Friday.
