Mayor-Elect Cunningham-Picek: "I Do Business Development”
The mayor-elect, who will become Woodridge's first mayor not named William Murphy in three decades, spotlights her business experience and emphasizes the need for resident involvement.

Village of Woodridge mayor-elect Gina Cunningham-Picek said that her experience as Bridgeview Bank market president and former president of the Woodridge Chamber of Commerce will be instrumental to her role as she takes over for the three-decade retiring Mayor William Murphy, in an interview with the Bugle last week.
“When you’re elected to office, you bring all of your experience to the table,” Cunningham-Picek told the paper. “I do business development; that’s what I do… I help business grow, and that skillset will enhance my impact.”
Cunningham-Picek told the paper that Murphy, who has headed the Village for the past 30 years, was “truly a mentor in [my] life” and said that she was deeply honored to receive his endorsement during the April election.

“In all of these services to the community, whether it be the village, the business community, her church, clubs, and organizations, Gina’s reputation is one who listens and contributes,” Murphy told the paper. “Gina is leadership in action.”
A resident of the Village since 1967, when she was five years old, Cunningham-Picek also emphasized a motto “working together works,” saying she will rely on resident input and help—“ “It’s so important that people stay engaged”—and pledged transparency on the part of the Village, the paper said.
