No Bail for Alleged Girlfriend Murderer
Launden Luckett is accused of stabbing and choking his girlfriend to death in her Woodridge apartment, authorities say.

Woodridge, IL - Bail has been denied for a Chicago man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death Oct. 17 in her Woodridge apartment.
Cook County authorities arrested Launden Luckett, 28 with a last known address in the 0-100 block of W. 114th Street in Chicago, on unrelated charges several days after the murder of his girlfriend, Cecily Dickey, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Luckett is charged with three counts of first degree murder. He was taken to DuPage County on Dec. 15, where he appeared in bond court Wednesday morning.

Woodridge police performing a well-being check Oct. 19 found Dickey’s body in her apartment. She had been stabbed multiple times and choked, according to the state’s attorney’s office. An autopsy confirmed Dickey died from multiple stab wounds.
The investigation led to Luckett, who was already in custody in Cook County.

Prosecutors say Dickey picked up Luckett in Chicago the evening of Oct. 16, and they went to her apartment in Woodridge. Around 3 a.m. Oct. 17, an argument turned physical.
Dickey ran to the bathroom to escape Luckett, who chased her and stabbed her in the stomach, prosecutors say. Dickey ran out of the bathroom, and Luckett reportedly grabbed her, knocked her down and continued to stab her and choke her.
Investigators believe Luckett stole Dickey’s cell phone, debit card and car and fled the scene, the state’s attorney’s office reported.
Luckett is scheduled for a court appearance Jan. 7.
If found guilty, Luckett could face life in prison, if it’s determined the murder was “accompanied by exceptionally brutal or heinous behavior indicative of wanton cruelty,” the state’s attorney’s office reports.
“Nearly two months ago, Cecily Dickey’s life came to a violent, brutal end,” said DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin in a statement. “While nothing can be done to bring Cecily back to those who loved her, the tremendous work of the Woodridge Police Department and the Felony Investigative Assistance Team will allow us to bring a strong prosecution against the man who allegedly took her life.”
