“The homeowners wanted to create a spa-like retreat that reflected their personal style,” Barber said. “We achieved this by creating a modernized space that incorporated texture and natural elements.”
Putting functionality first, the existing floorplan was modified and the toilet was relocated to the back wall to make way for a larger vanity. From there, the large tub deck was replaced by a crisp-white, free standing bathtub made from volcanic limestone. A large, frameless shower with built-in bench was also another luxurious addition.

“In addition to being beautiful, this bathroom is also practical,” added Laura. “We used an engineered stone countertop, which provides a neutral stone look without the required maintenance. Pull outs, baskets and cubbies also provide ample storage space.”
Barber’s renovation was one of 21 designs awarded with a NARI Remodeling Excellence Award. Winners were evaluated by an impartial panel of judges, comprised of industry experts. The judging criteria included problem solving, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty.
