WOODRIDGE, IL — As Thanksgiving approaches, drivers in Woodridge are likely to see more cops patrolling the village streets. Increased enforcement will lead up to the holiday and span Thanksgiving weekend in an effort to increase traffic safety.

Woodridge Police recommend taking the following measures to help ensure a safe holiday:

  • Do not drive high or drunk
  • Use a ride service or call a cab
  • Take public transit
  • Designate a sober driver
  • Make sure drivers and passengers are buckled up

“Thanksgiving brings more vehicles, longer trips and more festivities,” Woodridge Police Chief Tom Stefanson said in a statement.

He added, “Seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to save your life in a crash. We’re asking every driver and passenger to buckle up, every trip, every time — and to make a plan for a sober ride before the celebrations begin. If you drink alcohol or use cannabis, don’t drive.”

Part of the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" initiatives, Woodridge's Thanksgiving safety crackdown is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
