The crossing should reopen by Nov. 4, officials said. During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Route 71, Orchard Road and Route 34 as a detour around the downtown area.

Commercial traffic will be required to follow the posted detour as surrounding intersections do not have adequate space to accomodate large vehicles, according to police.

Local businesses in the area will remain open and accessible during construction.

"We understand that this closure will cause temporary traffic disruptions and encourage drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible," police said.
