Kendall Co. Sheriff Gives Distracted Driving Enforcement Update

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office conducted a distracted driving campaign last month.

YORKVILLE, IL—The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has been taking a closer look at its distracted driving enforcement. The campaign took place from April 21 through April 27 during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, at which point law enforcement agencies across the nation united behind the cause.

As part of their efforts, Kendall Sheriff’s Office deputies focused on driver’s using mobile devices without hands free devices.

The campaign was meant to increase awareness for the many dangers to distracted driving.

During the timeframe in question, deputies reported:

  • 198 traffic stops
  • 48 traffic citations, including 8 for use of electronic devices while driving, 3 for DUI, and 1 for illegal transportation of alcohol
  • 10 warnings for use of electronic devices while driving
  • 168 other written warnings for other moving or equipment violations

Authorities said they did not record any Scott’s Law violations, which require motorists to slow down and move over, if possible, on approach to flashing emergency lights on the side of the road. Such behavior can lead to a fine of up to $10,000 and could result in driver’s license suspension.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office wanted to remind the public that the campaign was meant to increase awareness for the dangers of distracted driving.
