Yorkville Police Chief To Resign: City Documents

Chief Hart had been with the department for 27 years, nine of them as chief.

YORKVILLE, IL — Yorkville Police Chief Rich Hart is retiring, according to documents covering a May 28 meeting of the City Council. He had been serving as the police chief since 2010.

He will serve up until Nov. 30 of this year, but will leave once the city has found a replacement, which is expected to be much sooner than that date.

“I don’t think that’s going to be a problem, to find somebody in...the next two or three months at the max,” Mayor John Purcell said, according to a Kendall County Now report. “That would be my hope.”

Hart will be paid $32,000 for his 920 banked hours of sick time and $33,100 for his banked vacation time, the City Council's documents say.

According to the agreement, he will keep paying into the department's health insurance system and will keep department-related information confidential when necessary.
