YORKVILLE, IL — The pedestrian bridge and island at Riverfront Park has been closed until further notice by Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department and Illinois Department of Natural Resources staff members, according to the City. The closure is due to erosion and high water levels impacting parts of the concrete sidewalks on the island and significant parts of the base material below the sidewalks, the City reported, adding that park goers and pedestrians are advised not to use the sidewalks and the island, as they currently aren't safe.

The island, owned by the State of Illinois, was constructed by the State of Illinois as part of the Glen Palmer Dam reconstruction years ago.

The City said State employees are scheduled to inspect the island and walkways during the coming days, and updates will be provided after.
