1. EHA responds to eviction concerns (tristatehomepage.com) — Evansville residents are pushing back after 165 eviction notices from the Evansville Housing Authority sparked fear among tenants behind on rent. At a tense board meeting, residents and a local pastor challenged EHA’s management company, which compared unpaid rent to a car loan but said it will work with tenants. The authority now faces pressure to balance enforcement with keeping families housed.
   

2. Evansville/Vanderburgh Human Relations Commission seeks nominations (courierpress.com) — Evansville residents are being asked to nominate local Black leaders for a new Downtown Black History Month Banner Project that will debut in 2026. The Human Relations Commission will select up to 10 honorees each year to highlight people whose work has significantly shaped Evansville’s Black history, with nominations open through Jan. 15 via the city’s online form.
   

3. Evansville copper heist suspects identified, one arrested (14news.com) — Evansville police say several suspects are tied to an organized copper theft from a local waste management business, with one man already in custody. Investigators report thousands of dollars in heavy copper rods were stolen and resold to area scrap yards. Warrants are out for two additional men, while a possible fourth suspect has yet to be identified.
   

4. Former Vanderburgh Co. commissioner pleads guilty to fraud (14news.com) — A former Vanderburgh County commissioner from Evansville has admitted to filing a fraudulent report tied to his campaign account, with six other charges dropped in a plea deal. He’s been ordered to repay more than $57,000, which will be divided among five local nonprofits. If he successfully completes six months of probation, the charge will be reduced to a misdemeanor.
   

5. 3 Evansville Students Win Lilly Scholarships (wnin.org) — Three Evansville-area seniors have earned prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships for 2026, covering full tuition and fees at any Indiana college. Norah Ahmed of Evansville Day School, Kris Lau of Signature School, and Maggie Raben of Memorial High School were chosen for their leadership, academics, and community service, and will join a statewide Lilly Scholars Network.
