EVPL Approves Plan to Buy Former Credit Union (wnin.org) — West Side Evansville readers will soon have a temporary library branch in the former Liberty Federal Credit Union building next to the closed Red Bank Library. The EVPL board approved the purchase so services can continue during demolition and construction of a larger, rebuilt Red Bank branch under the system’s Master Facilities Plan.

2. EVSC initiating $215K district-wide safety audit (wnin.org) — Evansville families should know EVSC has approved a $215,000 district-wide safety and security audit covering all 40 school buildings, including Central High School. A national firm will review policies, emergency plans, and physical security features, then deliver recommendations within about 15 days to help keep students and staff safer.

3. Evansville pastor requests investigation into evictions at EHA properties (14news.com) — Evansville tenants at several Housing Authority and Advantix properties have received more than 40 eviction notices since November, prompting a local pastor to call for an investigation and winter eviction pause. He’s pressing city officials and the Evansville-Vanderburgh Commission on Homelessness to review EHA’s practices, while housing leaders say they already work with renters but must still collect rent.

Start 2026 by Saving Lives at Evansville Blood Drive (newstalk1280.com) — Evansville residents can ring in 2026 by donating blood at Eastland Mall’s New Year, New Life Blood Drive on Friday, January 2, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hosted by the American Red Cross in the Dillard’s wing, the event encourages healthy, eligible donors to schedule appointments and help meet critical local blood needs across Southern Indiana.

5. SPIDER WARS? DoorDash Driver Arrested After Pepper-Spraying Customer's Food, Claims She Was Attacking Arachnid (blackenterprise.com) — A DoorDash delivery to an Evansville home turned frightening when surveillance video showed the driver spraying the food bag, and the customer soon experienced breathing trouble. Investigators say the driver admitted using pepper spray but blamed a spider, a claim police questioned given the cold temperature. She was later arrested in Kentucky and now faces felony battery and product-tampering charges tied to the Evansville delivery.
