Here are the top stories in Indianapolis today:

  1. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a homicide on the southeast side. Just after midnight Wednesday, officers patrolling the 9300 block of Troy Avenue came upon a vehicle that was off the road. Police found a woman inside that was suffering from injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Medics responded and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. It was the 4th homicide to occur within 3 hours (Fox 59)
  2. A man was sentenced to work release, in-home detention, and formal probation Wednesday for his involvement in a 2019 shooting in Terre Haute, Indiana. Trevyon Brown-Jones, 23, of Indianapolis, was found guilty of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness, and carrying a handgun without a license in Vigo County Court Wednesday. The 22 years of sentencing for the charges are to be served concurrently, meaning Brown-Jones will serve 12 years total. (MyWabashValley.com)

  4. CoreCivic Inc., which has managed Marion County Jail II, will cease operations later this year, laying off 143 workers. (Indianapolis Business Journal)
