Here are the top stories today in Indianapolis:

  1. After being canceled last year due to the pandemic, the Circle of Lights has returned. Last year, Indianapolis transformed the Soldiers and Sailors Monument into a gigantic Christmas tree but without the thousands of spectators who traditionally fill Monument Circle to watch the lights flick on. The 59th annual ceremony is back this year, with musical performances starting at 6:30 p.m. and the lights going on just before 8:00. (WIBC - Indianapolis News & Politics)
  2. Indianapolis is adding 90 acres of public green space in 2021, with an anticipated price tag of $1.8 million. That’s nearly three times the acreage purchased in the two decades prior, and a major expansion for a municipal parks agency with no land-acquisition budget. (Indianapolis Business Journal)
  3. Indianapolis is moving ahead with the next two legs of its massive bus rapid transit project, after a difficult state legislative session and pandemic-related problems threw a wrench in the timeline. The Indianapolis Public Transportation Corp., better known as IndyGo, plans to spend $42 million on up to 30 new 60-foot battery-electric buses from BYD. (Indianapolis Business Journal)
