Flood Warning Issued For Most Of Central Indiana: NWS

INDIANA — The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for 38 counties in Indiana on Thursday morning, including most of the central part of the state.

Counties affected by the warning stretch from the southwestern portion of Indiana in the area of Knox and Daviess counties to areas in the north and east central parts of the state. Most of the warnings last until 1:45 a.m. Friday with a few expiring at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas because of excessive rainfall is imminent, according to NWS.

Most areas have experienced at least 1 to 1.5 inches of rain already with rain expected to fall throughout the day and transition to sleet and snow late Thursday and into Friday morning, according to NWS.

Lafayette is expected to receive a mix of freezing rain and snow early in the afternoon, which is likely to transition into heavy snow in the late afternoon. The wintry mix is expected to reach Terre Haute and Indianapolis in the late afternoon followed by light snow in the evening. Bloomington is likely to get the wintry mix Thursday evening and snow at night leading into Friday, forecasters said.

Portions of southwest and south central Indiana are expected to receive up to 3 inches of precipitation over the next three days, according to NWS.
