📰 News we're reading

1. Foster Success losing some funding, turning to community for support (wthr.com) — An Indianapolis-based nonprofit that supports teens and young adults aging out of foster care is facing more than $600,000 in sudden federal and state funding cuts, threatening college aid and youth engagement programs. Foster Success leaders say they’re trimming their budget while asking the community to help close the gap so local young people don’t lose critical housing, education, and employment support.

2. Indianapolis family devastated by winter break-in, thousands of dollars in valuables stolen (wishtv.com) — An Indianapolis west side family returned from a short trip to find their home ransacked and thousands of dollars in valuables, heirlooms, and Christmas gifts stolen. Indianapolis police say winter break-ins spike this time of year and urge residents to use cameras, good lighting, and strong locks to protect their homes.

3. Volunteers build safe accessibility ramp for Indianapolis family ahead of the holidays (wrtv.com) — On Indianapolis’ southwest side, volunteers with Servants at Work spent Saturday building a safe, permanent accessibility ramp for 22-year-old Olivia Carr and her two children, who all have a rare bone condition. The new ramp replaces a dangerously steep setup and will make daily life, especially getting in and out of their home, much safer heading into the holidays.

4. 'It is not me, it is him': Democrat elected official asks folks not to mistake his Republican twin brother for him (fox59.com) — An Indianapolis City-County councilman is going viral after asking residents not to confuse him with his politically opposite twin brother, who appears at Republican and pro-Trump events. The brothers, one a Democrat and one a conservative activist, say they maintain a close relationship and hope their story encourages more civil, good‑faith political conversations in Indianapolis and beyond.

5. Man charged in father's brutal murder and attempted murder of mother (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Indianapolis police have charged a 54-year-old man in the killing of his father and the severe assault of his mother at a home on South Catherwood Avenue, with the suspect now held in Marion County Jail. Investigators say he was arrested in the father’s missing truck about 90 miles from Indianapolis, and court dates are already set for March 2026.
