Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:
- On Saturday, 43 animals found their forever homes during the Indianapolis Animal Care Services' "Season of Love" adoption event. According to IACS Deputy Director Katie Trennepohl, the number of adoptions is "exciting" but "the shelter continues to need the communityβs assistance." The IACS, still facing staffing shortages, continues to only accept animals in emergency situations. (WTHR)
- One person was killed and four were injured in a fatal car crash on Saturday night. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Pike Township Fire Department were called to the crash, which took place at an intersection near the Saddlebrook Golf Club. Video footage of the crash shared on social media showed an overturned vehicle engulfed in smoke and flames. (WISHTV.com)
- Following record COVID case numbers in January, Indianapolis Public Schools will offer free voluntary rapid testing for staff and students. IPS additionally plans to open two PCR testing locations. Though some districts across the nation have implemented a "test-to-stay" protocol, Indianapolis is reportedly focusing on symptomatic cases. (WFYI)
