Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:

  1. A third-year officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is facing charges after an excessive use of force investigation. Travis Lewis is facing one felony count of official misconduct and two misdemeanor counts of battery with bodily injury after he allegedly threw a man onto the asphalt while handcuffed last month. A recommendation of termination was delivered to the IMPD Civilian Police Merit Board for Lewis, who has been suspended without pay. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
  2. One person was killed in a crash on the east side on Monday morning. The crash occurred near the 5300 block of Massachusetts Avenue, between Emerson Avenue and North Ritter Avenue, at around 11:00 a.m. IMPD shut down the area to investigate. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
  3. A youth employment program is helping teens and young adults gain job training, learn life coping skills, and complete their education. Workforce development organization EmployIndy and its youth employment system, known as YES Indy, created a multi-level initiative to change youth's mindset from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Participants in the program are between the ages of 16-24 who have either experienced homelessness, did not complete high school, or are young parents. (WFYI)
