Here are the top three stories today in Indianapolis:
- A southside waste oil recycling company could soon lose its permit to discharge wastewater to a local treatment system. Metalworking Lubricants Co. has long had complaints of odor and air pollution from nearby residents, as well as repeated water violations. Citizens Energy Group has reportedly given the company until Aug. 31 to achieve compliance; Metalworking Lubricants had not responded for comment at the time of publication. (WFYI)
- This Friday, the Capital Improvement Board announced the official name for the public plaza under construction north of Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The plaza will be called Bicentennial Unity Plaza, named in reference to Indianapolis' 200th birthday last year, and will also be home to two public sculptures created by artist Herman Mejia. Officials report the Cicentennial Unity Plaza will include a community basketball court/ice rink, as well as serve as the site for community programs and artistic performances.
