Here are the top three stories today in Indianapolis:
- Unpaid utility bills by the property management of Berkley Commons and Capital Place apartments for water and gas exceeded $1.3 million, according to The City of Indianapolis. Taxpayer dollars were used last week to pay for over half the bills, in order to restore water services to the southside complexes after the management company that owns the properties failed to pay. Utilities were to be paid with residents' rent, according to documents, and now State Representative Justin Moed (D-Indianapolis) is fighting for Congress to get involved. (WRTV)
- An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the armed robbery of a bakery on the cityβs south side. 34-year-old Ryan Hickey pleaded guilty to the Jan. 30, 2021 robbery at Boydenβs Southside Bakery on south Meridian Street. During the incident, Hickey had reportedly fired his gun between employees, got into a fight with a customer who tried to stop him, and pointed his handgun to a personβs head, threatening to kill them. - This weekend, Indiana native Jon McLaughlin will be performing in Indianapolis. McLaughlin will be holding a three-day residency at HI-FI where he will headline six shows. McLaughlin has previously performed at the Academy Awards, has played with Billy Joel, Kelly Clarkson, and Adele, and on Wednesday, made his debut appearance on βAll Indiana.β (WISHTV.com)
