Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:
- Eight Indianapolis Public Schools are moving to remote learning for the rest of the week due to staff absences. The schools are closed on Monday and Tuesday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as well as a professional development day. Officials expect classes to resume in person after the break. (WISHTV.com)
- Two juveniles were arrested in connection to a March 2021 homicide that took the life of 30-year-old Dusty Lawrence. The shooting occurred in a neighborhood along Rinehall Drive, when Lawrence, his pregnant wife, and his daughter went to meet the suspects they met online to sell items. Prosecutors expect the case will be direct filed into adult court and not go into the juvenile system because both suspects are at least 16-years-old. (Fox 59)
- Victims of the FedEx mass shooting will not be filing a lawsuit against Indianapolis for failing to use the red flag Law to keep the shooter from buying guns. The Sikh Coalition was seeking $2.1 million in compensation from the city over failing to file a red flag case against the shooter a year before the mass shooting. The city did not respond that it would pay the compensation or deny before the Jan. 10 deadline, which is the same as issuing a denial β allowing for the claimants to move forward with a lawsuit.
