Here are the top three stories in Indianapolis today:
- On Friday, several dozen students at Lawrence North High School walked out to protest what they describe as an unchecked bullying and violence problem. Approximately 20 students stood in front of the Indianapolis high school with poster board signs, with another 15 or so gathering near the library just offsite. According to ninth-grader Estefany Shacon, "People just go around the school and just do whatever they want really, and they are not taking it seriously ... we need a system that actually focuses on justice." (IndyStar)
- A heads up for all downtown drivers: a portion of Central Avenue under I-65 is expected to close this morning for North Split construction. Crews are expected to demolish overhead structures in the area between 11th and 12th Streets. According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the closure is scheduled to continue through mid-April of this year. (WISH TV Indianapolis, IN)
- After Irvington residents spoke out over potential changes to Ellenberger Park, Indy Parks has released an online form for neighbors to voice their concerns. Complainants believed the city was trying to make the changes behind their back by putting an artificial turf field on top of construction by Citizens Energy. Residents can vote for their preference between an artificial turf field, a natural turf field, or no changes at all. (FOX 59 Indianapolis)
