Here are the top stories in Indianapolis today:

  1. Oct. 2021 was the deadliest month in Indy’s history with 34 homicides in 31 day. The 34th and final homicide in Oct. took place in the 3200 block of Hovey St. on Sunday, when 28-year-old Jalen Chatmon was shot to death. The previous record for the most homicides in a calendar month was set just a few months ago in July when there were 33 homicides. (Fox 59)
  2. Two people have been charged with the death of Hannah Crutchfield, a 7-year-old child who was struck and killed on Sept. 14 while she was leaving school. Torrell King has been charged with reckless homicide and criminal recklessness, both Level 5 felonies, along with two counts of criminal recklessness as Level 6 felonies. A 17-year-old female also is facing a host of charges which include operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless homicide, criminal recklessness, operating a vehicle with never having received a license, and more.   3. Several local high school marching bands are headed to the ISSMA State Finals at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday. (WEVV)
  4. Family-owned Japanese restaurant Mikado's will be closing in December, marking a historic loss for downtown. (Indianapolis Monthly)
  5. 27-year-old Royce Cannon is wanted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for failure to register as a sex offender. (WISHTV.com)
